DEtroit TRUETRAC

This limited slip unit (aka “LSD”, aka “posi-traction”, aka “torque sensing”) is manufactured by Eaton and is a worm gear design that acts like a normal open-carrier under normal operating conditions. However, when a wheel encounters a loss of traction or the terrain changes, the helical-shaped gears mesh with increasing force, transferring torque to the high traction wheel until wheel spin is slowed or completely stopped. When the vehicle exits the low traction situation, the differential seamlessly resumes normal operation. With no clutches, this unit is a favorite among a variety of vehicle styles & operations. It’s an ideal limited slip for Muscle Car, Street, Off-road, Road race, and Towing.

     OX Locker    

 This selectable locking unit (aka “selectable-locker”) is manufactured by OX and is a mechanical style locker with internal teeth that are locked together by an external cable that is engaged and disengaged either by compressed air, an electrical solenoid, or a manual shifter. The unit allows for more control by the driver because it can be engaged or disengaged from inside the vehicle. When not locked it operates just like an open carrier so it’s great for normal street use, but when the locker gets engaged, it connects both axles together and doesn’t allow any difference between the two. With no clutches, this unit is a favorite among a variety of vehicle styles & operations. It’s an ideal locker for Street / Strip, Off-road, and Rock-crawling.

 This locking unit (aka “locker”) is manufactured by Eaton and is a mechanical style locker with internal teeth that are locked together with tension from 2 large internal coil springs. The unit stays locked until one wheel’s rotation starts to get limited (normally from the vehicle cornering) and puts pressure on one of the coil springs. This allows the teeth to dis-engage so the locker can slip and act like a normal open carrier. Once the wheels are turning at the same rotational speed, the locker re-engages. With no clutches, this unit is a favorite among a variety of vehicle styles & operations. It’s an ideal locker for Muscle Car, Street / Strip, Off-road, and Rock-crawling.

This limited slip unit (aka “LSD”, aka “posi-traction”, aka “torque sensing”) is manufactured by Yukon and is a clutch style design that has 4 small coil springs that keep constant tension on a stack of clutch plates located behind the side gears. That tension keeps the engine torque distributed equally to both wheels until one of the wheel's resistance increases enough to compress the coil springs (normally from the vehicle cornering or at approximately 125 - 200 ft. lbs). When the vehicle exits the different wheel tension situation, the differential seamlessly resumes normal operation. This unit is a favorite among a variety of vehicle styles & operations. It’s an ideal limited slip for Muscle Car, Street / Strip, and towing.

This unit is mainly reserved for drag race only. It’s the least expensive and also the most durable unit available, but it has absolutely no provision for different wheel spin from one side to the other. When cornering, the tire is forced to “hop” to compensate for the difference in wheel spin. It’s an ideal unit for Drag Race & Mud Race.
